Representative duties and responsibilities:
What GSO representatives are NOT responsible for:
1. To become the graduate student organization representative for your department, you must be elected by the graduate students in your department.
   
2. If your department does not currently have a GSO representative, the GSO president can appoint you department representative for one semester. At the end of that semester, however, you must organize an election in your department.
 
   As a GSO representative, you are responsible for:
1. Attending scheduled meetings.
a. The GSO meets once a month during the fall and spring semesters and once during the summer semester.
b. If you miss a meeting, the GSO constitution states that no applications for your department can be considered at that meeting or at the next meeting (bylaws section one).
c. If you are unable to attend the meeting, you can arrange for a proxy to represent your department in your absence.
   
2.   Keeping the graduate students in your department informed about GSO activities. This includes:
 
a. Information about GSO meeting dates and funding deadlines.
b. Information about GSO workshops and other events.
c. Relaying information about any important business that transpires during a GSO meeting.
d. Making sure the graduate students in your department know about current funding amounts and guidelines.
   
3. Keeping the GSO council informed about any issues and concerns that are raised by the graduate students in your department.
   
4. Making sure that every funding application from your department is complete before it is submitted to the GSO executive council. You are also responsible for making sure applications from your department are submitted in a timely manner.
   
5. Familiarizing yourself with GSO application procedures so that you can help the graduate students in your department apply for GSO funds. You should be available to assist the graduate students in your department with the application process.
   
6. Making GSO application forms are readily available to the graduate students in your
department.
   
7. Providing the GSO executive council and the students in your department with current contact information.
 
    As a GSO representative, you are NOT responsible for:
 
1. Filling out funding applications, writing letters, getting signatures, or doing any other GSO-related paperwork for graduate students in your department.
   
2. Making proxy arrangements for the graduate students in your department.
   
3. Submitting receipts for graduate students in your department.
   
4. The failure of individual graduate students in your department to meet GSO deadlines, or to follow university travel or purchasing guidelines.
