  Frequently Asked Questions

Can I schedule an appointment to see a practitioner?

Yes.

  • Currently all women's health services and minor procedures are scheduled.
  • We are offering a combination of scheduled appointments and walk in services for routine care.

Are you going to tell my parents that I came to Student Health Services?

No. Anyone 18 and older is considered an adult by law. We are not allowed to release any information to anyone without a signed consent by the patient. Once a release is signed, we can only release the information to the person the patient specifies and can only tell them what the patient specifies.
• Make sure if you're having your parent or a friend meet you at the clinic that you notify us. If you're not in the waiting room or they miss you for some reason, then we won't be able to tell them that you are/were at Student Health Services at all.
• If you want a parent to speak to a practitioner about your illness, make sure you sign the release of information consent allowing them to do so. Otherwise, we cannot discuss your case.

Do you prescribe birth control pills?

Our women's health program requires you to have a current well woman exam (within the last year). Once you've had your exam, the practitioner will discuss your contraceptive options. If you are a good candidate for oral contraceptives (birth control pills), she will prescribe them for you.
You must complete the following prior to scheduling a well woman exam at Student Health Services:
• Watch 3 video tapes prior to your first visit only. This is to educate you and hopefully answer some questions you may have. We encourage you to bring all of your questions/concerns and discuss them with the practitioner during your appointment.
• You must pay the well woman exam fee. You may call for a current price (#48clinic).
After you complete your exam and if oral contraceptives are an option for you:
• You will given a 3 month prescription.
• You must schedule a return visit while you are on your 3rd pack of oral contraceptives for a blood pressure and weight evaluation. During that 3 month visit, you will be given a prescription for 10 months from the practitioner to get filled at either our in-house pharmacy or a pharmacy of your choice.

I think I broke my ankle, can I be seen there?

Absolutely. Our practitioner will evaluate your injury and possibly send you for an x-ray. If there is a fracture (a break), we can make a referral to an orthopedic specialist for you.

Can I get a prescription filled there from my regular doctor?

All of our medications are prepackaged and labeled with our physicians name. Only prescriptions written by our physician or nurse practitioner can be filled in our pharmacy. However, if you are currently on an oral contraceptive that we sell in our in-house pharmacy, we ask that you provide us with your pharmacy name and phone number. Your prescription can be transferred to our pharmacy and be filled here. If you are currently on an oral contraceptive that your private physician prescribed, but is not one of the brands that we sell here, you may have your doctor contact us if you desire to switch to a brand we sell here.

Can I go to Student Health Services to have my blood drawn for routine tests that my regular doctor ordered?

Yes. If you bring in an order from your doctor for lab work, we will do it at Student Health and fax it to your regular doctor for you.

Do you give out condoms?

We do not just give out condoms. We advise that you have an assessment done here before we provide you with a few condom samples. Student Health Service supports abstinence to prevent unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.

Can I have a pregnancy test done there?

Yes. You may call for current pricing.

Do you accept credit cards?

Yes. We accept credit and debit cards from these vendors: Master Card, Visa, American Express, and Discover.

At this time, we do not accept the Cajun Card. However, if this is your payment of choice, we will give you a slip with an amount to bring to Coronna Hall for processing.

Do you have a dentist?

No, but we will be happy to provide you with a referral.
