Mathematics Placement and Credit Information

Placement

Placement by the ACT mathematics sub-score (for most students)

ACT ≤ 16: Preparatory work is needed before enrolling in MATH 092

17 ≤ ACT ≤ 18: MATH 092

19 ≤ ACT ≤ 20: MATH 100

21 ≤ ACT ≤ 25: MATH 105

18 ≤ ACT ≤ 24: MATH 107

ACT ≥ 23: MATH 140

ACT ≥ 26: MATH 143

ACT ≥ 28: MATH 270

Students wishing to challenge placement in MATH 092 or MATH 100 may take the freshman placement exam. This exam is for placement only. No credit is given. To prepare for this exam review precalculus material. Such reviews are available in bookstores and online. [Placement exam schedule]


Placement by exam

Freshman Placement Exam
This exam is for students whose ACT math score is 20 or less who wish to place into MATH 092, 100, 105, or 107. [Placement exam schedule]


International Student Math Exam
International students who have never taken a collegiate mathematics course in the U.S. must take this exam. [Placement exam schedule]


Credit

Students with ACT ≥ 26 who have never attended a college or university may take the advanced credit exam for credit in MATH 105 or MATH 109 and MATH 110. [Placement exam schedule]

Students with 25 ≤ ACT ≤ 29 receive automatic credit in MATH 105

Students with ACT ≥ 30 receive automatic credit in MATH 143


Credit based on CEEB AP Exams

CalculusAB 3: credit in MATH 143 and MATH 250

CalculusAB 4,5: credit in MATH 143 and MATH 270

CalculusBC 3: credit in MATH 143 and MATH 270

CalculusBC 4,5: credit in MATH 143, MATH 270 and MATH 301
