Job Vacancy Announcement

POSITION: Tenure-track positions in Mathematics at the rank of Associate or Assistant Professor.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties will include teaching courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level, conducting research, and engaging in departmental and professional service.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should have a Ph.D. in mathematics or statistics and a commitment to excellence in research and teaching. Preference will be given to applicants in the field of mathematical biology.

THE UNIVERSITY: The University of Louisiana at Lafayette, a Research University with a high research activity, has a well-established Ph.D. program in mathematics. It has an enrollment of approximately 16,300 students with a faculty of about 550. Located midway between New Orleans and Houston, Lafayette is the heart of Louisiana's Acadian-Creole region. The city of over 120,000 is one of Louisiana's fastest-growing and is the hub of numerous music and cultural festivals and celebrations. Lafayette serves as the base of Louisiana's off-shore oil industry, as well as the financial, retail, and medical center for South-Central Louisiana. THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Mathematics is one of the largest academic units on the campus. Course offerings range from developmental work in mathematics for freshmen to advanced graduate level courses for doctoral students. Current faculty research interests include algebra, applied mathematics, statistics, and topology.

TERMS: Appointments will commence August 19, 2009, or at the beginning of a subsequent term. Salary is negotiable, depending on qualifications.
