The Computer Science department has the following
computer resources available to students:
CMPS Laboratory Classroom: The
CMPS Laboratory Classroom includes 30 networked
client machines running both Microsoft Windows
and Linux and an additional 10 networked client
machines running Solaris Unix, all of which
are supported by file servers. This lab is configured
to be usable for closed lab activities, i.e.,
activities in which the instructor and the students
are engaged in collaborative problem solving
and software development and for independent
student use. Software development is supported
in Java ME, SE and EE, Gnu C++, all current
.net languages, plus other languages such as
PHP and Perl. Additional software for student
use includes standard office software, such
as MS Office and OpenOffice. It is located in
room 106 in the Advanced Computer Technology
and Research (ACTR) building. Hours are posted
outside the lab.
Video Game Design & Development Lab:
The VGDD lab is located in room 105 in the Advanced
Computer Technology and Research (ACTR) building.
It contains 20 XPS Gen 5 Dell machines with
a wide variety of gaming related software. The
lab is used for classes and student projects
related to the Video Game Design & Development
concentration. Access and user accounts are
restricted.
Motion Capture Lab: The motion
capture lab is located in room 105 in the Advanced
Computer Technology and Research (ACTR) building.
It consists of eight video cameras and the additional
hardware and software to capture live motion
data for use in the Video Design and Development
concentration. This lab is one of only a few
its kind in the country dedicated to undergraduate
students.
SUN Ultra Workstations: The Solarium
Lab is located on the first floor of the Conference
Center. This system consists of a file server
and 116 Sun workstations running the Unix operating
system. The workstations are named d1.ucs.louisiana.edu
through d116.ucs.louisiana.edu. The Solarium
is open-access to all university students and
can be used for general activities such as email
and Internet browsing. All faculty, staff, and
students may use this lab, which provides a
variety of academic applications and a campus
e-mail address. All systems support remote access
via connection to the campus network. Operations,
maintenance, software support, account creation,
and user assistance are provided by University
Computing Support Services (Helpdesk).
